Let me start with the disclaimer that I have no proof of this. It is a hypothesis at this point and I invite the board to add facts for one side or the other.

If you step back and look at all of the activities from Snowden through Podesta, all leaks seem to be of US information (are there no scandals in Russia). All the Wikileaks are to the detriment of Clinton when we have heard from a number of different sources that compromising information exists about Trump. When Snowden needed a place to escape to Assange arranged for him to be lodged in Russia.
I have nothing to base this on other than patterns and Occam's Razor. It's not proof.
