I'm only going over the P5 conferences does anybody really care about the others? I didn't think so.

ACC 9/3 and they have the National Champion

SEC 6/7 I agonize over this but even though it was Bama and 13 nobodies Bama made it to the nc and lost in one of the greatest games ever.

Big XII 4/2 redemption. Our two biggest games involved OK and OSU and they won big. And we beat the aggies and as matter of fact we went 2/1 against the SEC.

Pac XII I don't have their w/l record offhand but they didn't do well. But SC coming from behind to win the RB made their bowl season salvageable.

Big X? Bit*h please they're now the little ten serves those sob's right considering how they manipulate the playoffs to give themselves the advantages over everyone else

The Big X was the joke of a conference. The Big 12 did well but the ACC did great overall but that conference is still crappy to me. The PAC had USC. The SEC had Bama no one else was special

I have the list on another post but didn't update it with the NC but yeah the ACC kicked ass this year.

The $EC being 6-7 in bowls makes me smile. :D

They were just another conference this year. Here's to hoping that the $EC continues on a downward trend. :p

So is it good or bad to cheer your own conference during bowl season? I get mixed messages around here....

Well for me it matters a lot. I think a lot of horn fans are frustrated by our mediocrity the last few years, I know I am. And I think that's why a lot of horn fans say they don't care about how the conference does in bowl games.

It's not complicated. Mocking you do nothing, coattail riding, $EC cheerleaders is always in fashion. Your conference pride is all you have going for you so that's where we hit. Hope that helps.

So cheering for the B12 when your school/team is a member is okay....but cheering for the SEC when your school/team is a member is "coattail riding, do nothing, cheerleading"?

Got it. Just making sure.

Just making fun of you do nothings, that's all. Like I said, it's not complicated. For non farmer types.

Now go get your pom poms.

BTW since you're still obviously confused, aggy, we don't have to rely on conference mates for our self worth like you. We've won it all ourselves. You never will. We understand your predicament in that regard.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. $EC fans, and especially aggy, are the worst at this. You honestly don't see how ags embarrass themselves in doing this?

I had a job interview for a professor position at a state flagship SEC school. While I was there they were constantly comparing themselves to other SEC schools. At Texas we compare ourselves to the top flagship public universities, at the place I am now we compare ourselves to other regional liberal arts institutions but in the SEC its all about the SEC.

Not really. Just seems like people support their conferences in bowl games. I used to pull for the B12 when we were there...not sure how this is any different.

I think it's more of the beating of the chest that is embarrassing. Great cheer on your conference but to act as if your school contributed to any SEC Championships is dumb. It's been 4 years and the very 1st year it was HEY we're part of the SEC so we're automatically good. Nope!

From a football perspective I think you are correct in the outlook for Texas supporters. So you are comparing yourselves with historically great programs (USC, ND, Ohio St.,OU, Bama etc). But the problem is along the way you have failed to take care of business locally and now you are losing to teams like Iowa St. and Kansas.

At this point Texas is a historically great program that is stuck in a mediocre period, who knows how long that will last. Every program I mentioned above with the exception of Ohio St. has suffered long droughts in the past 30+ years.

Bama was in that slump not all that long ago, went through three knuckleheads to get to Saban. Hopefully Herman is the right guy and this cycle doesn't follow that course.

Wasn't talking about football. it was about academics. An SEC school was comparing itself to other SEC schools in regards to Academics, Enrollment etc. I was a finalist for a position and I had on campus interview which is really 7 interviews and 2 presentations over 2 days. I found it odd that people at the college inducing the Dean and Associate Dean kept referring to the SEC.

I don't live in the world of academia, but I bet it just means in our region. The vast majority of kids go to school in their home state, or a bordering state. Kids in Alabama don't normally consider Alabama, UCLA, and Penn State. They consider Alabama, Auburn, and maybe an Ole Miss or a Georgia - bordering schools. I would think saying we are the top Architecture school in the SEC, is just saying in our region.

No it was odd for faculty and admin. I have had 11 phone interviews and 3 on campus interviews for tenure track professor positions. This place was the only one that mentioned their athletic conference. Full disclosure I would have taken the job in a heart beat if they offered it too me. Every other place I have been has compared themselves to similar universities. It wasn't Vandy, I have been there. They compare themselves to Ivies, Rice Standford Etc. This place was more like a Nebraska, Kansas, Arizona, South Carolina or Oregon. Yet then only compared themselves to other SEC schools.
