RIP Ricky Henderson

I can't count the number of times I saw Rickey play in person and on TV. He was always electric, you never knew what he might try on the basepaths, or he just might surprise everyone and go yard. He had plenty of pop in his bat. He was a local legend in Oakland, the boy who made the home team proud. Rickey was certainly a character and when he and Dave Henderson were on the A's together, it was a quite a duo in the outfield. Plus he was Nolan Ryan's 5000th strikeout victim and he considered it a badge of honor. RIP Rickey, thanks for the memories.

News is reporting that it was pneumonia that killed him. That is nasty business and nothing to mess with, especially as we age....

When Ricky stole base 939 to break Lou Brock's record, he took the base out of the ground to celebrate. He walked it over to the dugout to keep as a souvenir.
A few innings later, he stole another base and pulled it out of the ground and started walking it over to the dugout.
One of the umps asked Ricky why he removed the base from the field and was keeping it- that he'd already broken the record.

Ricky replied "because Ricky just broke the record again".

Exactly why we loved Ricky.

True. Just an FYI. You all should take zinc, Vit D, Vit C daily. There is always more you can do, but this is ground zero. These are all good for your immune system. If you are over 50, zinc can also help protect your prostate. Also, a high % of people are low in Vit D levels. I would bet Ricky was not supplementing Vit D and his levels were low. Otherwise, doubtful he would have passed. This is good and serious advice, gents.

Vaccine Denier!!!

Some other Ricky stores. When he broke Ty Cobb's record for runs scored he slid across home plate and took home plate out of the ground and kept it.

Somebody above mentioned that he always spoke in the third person. He would pose in the mirror in his jock strap and admire himself saying Ricky's the best. He died just a few days short of his birthday.

A great player and one of the all time great spirits.
