I assumed he had been dead for decades. But Shecky Greene died at age 97, peacefully at home in Las Vegas.
My favorite Shecky Greene joke was when he credited Frank Sinatra with saving his life. Five hoodlums were beating the tar out of Shecky. Frank said "Okay, he's had enough."
At one point in 1975, he was being paid $150,000 a week to headline in Las Vegas. That was a lot of money in 1975. He quipped that $125,000 of that went to his bookie.
