Baton Rouge Southern University Lab LB/DE Christopher Allen has seen his stock shoot up this spring and is now holding about 15 scholarship offers.
Allen has put his talents on display at not one, but two Rivals Camp Series events this spring, making stops to compete at New Orleans and in Dallas. The 6-4, 233-pounder was one of the top linebackers on hand when OB watched the Dallas Camp, comparing well with high-profile guys like Baron Browning.
The Texas Longhorns are one of the programs who have extended an early offer to Allen, with Texas reaching out to his coaches shortly after RCS New Orleans in early March. The UT offer definitely caught Allen's eye.
"It happened right after the Rivals camp in New Orleans," Allen said. "It’s great. I was very happy, very happy."
With Allen attending high school in the shadows of Louisiana State University, a lot of people are expecting him to stay close to home and attend LSU. The Tigers have offered, and Allen has been on LSU's campus a handful of times.
At this stage, the four-star prospect and Rivals250 member says he's completely open among the schools that are recruiting him.
"I don't have a list of favorites. It’s pretty open,” Allen said.
Allen said is hoping to find a way to make it to UT's spring game on April 16, but he has yet to finalize any visit plans. He also wants to go visit Florida in early April.
As for the Longhorns, it's actually Texas' history at the quarterback position that most stands out for Allen.
“I know their history. Quarterbacks Vince Young and Colt McCoy. Colt McCoy is my favorite Texas player so it was really big to get that offer,” Allen said.
