I'm going to keep a running total of points for and points against our new coach.

I'm coming at this with a clean slate and an open mind. I'm shelving my preconceived thoughts about this hire for the time being. As it stands, Sark has already landed one point in the Win column with his statement today that we WILL sing the Eyes of Texas and we will sing it proudly. Scoreboard looks like this:

Good Sark----------------- Bad Sark
1.......................................0

The way I'll score it if he beats OK then it's

Good Sark 1,000
Bad Sark 0
This. The eyes of Texas thing will hit home with some fans, but at the end of the day if sark wins he will be successful if he doesn’t he won’t be. It’s that simple.

I think he deserves another point for the wr that just committed and the phone calls it’s being reported that texas got from recruits during and after the game.

As someone said earlier it seems that we have a competent adult in charge now. I really like how in his press conference he mentioned the quote in the locker room about how The University of Texas is not to be entrusted to the timid or weak or something like that. He said "I had to climb my way back in this profession, and none of that would have happened if I was timid or weak,” He's has a past but I think he has learned from it and is better for it now.

He seems genuine, confident, and at the same time humble.

his presser was good. it was pretty calming. and with the s-storm we've had around here, that was good. he seemed confident and competent, but didn't seem like a d-bag. said the right things, in the right way. i'm optimistic. we've done well by plucking a mediocre coach from washington before. if you're not sure who that is, his name is on the stadium. looks like an adult is in charge again.

If Sark has records like DKR in 1965, 1966 and 1967 --- he'll never last!

Look....this aint about TEOT....It is about real hope!
Mike Roach reported the phone is off the hook because of HS coaches lining up to get into Sarks clinics this summer.

Our new 2022 WR commit Armani Winfield has tweeted....you heard it here first...Quinn is gonna flip...Hookem...

If any of this comes to fruition we can become a force again.

if he first has records like DKR 1960,1961,1962,1963,1964, he will have no problem sticking around. I was at UT during those very years you quoted and there was not one little peep about chasing St DKR....We all knew that 1968,1969,1970,1971,1972 were coming...

I understand what you're trying to say but DKR was never a mediocre coach and I'm sure he would have had great success wherever he coached at.

I see he attended a THSCA board meeting yesterday as well. This is great news! We have got to stop letting all of this in state talent go elsewhere.

It's early, but I'm not liking your chances against us next year. I think we'll be better both offensively and defensively.

I would give your new coach a chance to get his feet on the ground before you start expecting him to beat OU. Give him until 2022 at least.

And it seems like a pretty good hire. Bama's offense was amazing under his leadership. So congrats.

Sark was amazed when walking into DKR, he said good things in the press conference. He has met with some of the greats and wants them to come visit and be apart of Texas more than ever. He just went to the high school coaches meeting and trying to connect with them. Charlie could never connect with the high school coaches so many players left the state. If he gets this train going with the right players watch out and we won't be talking about losing to blowu.

Dude have a sense of humor. And OK does not have a monster team. It took OK 4 ot's to beat a TX team that played lousy that day.

This is the kind of post that really pisses me off.....and there is truth in it.If we want to be the Man, we have to beat the Man....and that is currently OU. However, before we get on to that little problem we have to start taking care of TCU and ISU. We have hope that this is the guy to lead us out of the wilderness.

clob, waiting for you to update your scorecard after Sark's comments on the Eyes....

And I saw on fp that he is keeping Andre Coleman which surprises me. But in a good way. And now Kyle Flood. This is getting good.

Hiring VY to any position that he doesn't have a leash attached to him is a bad idea.

If VY has a leash--

Sark 2-0

If he doesn't have a leash

Sark 1-1

Sark didn't hire him. This was Del Conte's move and it's mainly for fundraising and appearances.

Let clob vent. He is still hurt that texas hired Sark. Keeps fishing for reasons to say "I told you so".

When does Sark get tested with the sledge hammer swing challenge? That is either going to make it or break it in my book

I feel we won't have to worry about those kinds of things from Sark.

I talked to a coach recently that dealt with Tom when he was at Houston and when he was at Texas. He had come to recruit his players. He said he loved Houston Tom.........but he said Texas Tom was off putting. This goes along with all I've read about. It's almost like he wanted to be like Saban's internet pitch without any skins on the wall. Sarks hit that low. I think he will come in and move us back up to Mack levels. No more media drama (Tom vs Urban), no more coach drama (Tom vs Zach), and no more we are Texas and we are only going to offer 26 scholly's for 24 openings and they should just go ahead and commit. Sarks got some horses to recruit and he's working hard to bring the alumni/players together to work for the good. Sounds a lot like Mack when he showed up......

Clob....I keep reading how Sark is reaching out to former players. Is this true? If so, what in hell does that even mean?

Your annual "spring football" report is going to be huge this year. Just remember big guy.....you have lots of the faithful depending on you.

not a cheap shot...
here is proof.
Just because I'm not crazy about the hire doesn't mean I want him to fail. I wasn't crazy about charlie- and knew he would fail-- but I hoped he wouldn't.
I wasn't crazy about Tom and was pretty sure he would fail-- but hoped he wouldn't.

With regard to Sark-- do I think he has a better shot than Charlie? Absolutely.
Does he have a better shot than Herman?
Yes he does.

If I were to try and attach numbers to quantify the percentage chance I believe these coaches had at success when they took this job it would be-

Charlie > 1%
Herman > 5%
Urban < 90%
Sark + or - 30%

Things have to fall into place. Look at it like this-- no team in college football history has ever won a title without a tiny bit of luck going their way. No team. Ever.

Remember 2005? There were a couple of lucky breaks that went the way of that team.

Limbs sweed coming down with that ball against Ohio State for the TD.
Reggie Bush pitching to nobody and fumbling.
Reggie Bush not being on the field on 4th and 2....

And much like that, Sark is going to need some breaks to go his way. I try and call balls and strikes pretty fair around here. When coaches and kids perform, I praise them. When we screw up a coin toss, or run out on the field to fight another coach, I call that sh!t out too. And yes, I've taken tons of flak for my opinions. And newsflash-- not every little opinion I've had has been right. I'm human. I make mistakes too. But SO fAR-- Sark is doing all the right things. I've got zero to complain about. Our recruiting class could have been a little better, but because of the short window, I don't throw that at sark's feet. That's on Tom.
Do I hope Sark learned his lesson about addiction and what it TRULY means to have a second chance? Yes, I sincerely do hope he knows he's been fortunate enough to arrive at this second chance in life. Does he have potential here? Yes, I believe so.

But in the immortal words of Bam Bam-- (Steve McMichael for those of you that don't know) ---"potential is just a fancy French word that means you ain't done a fvcking thing yet."

So let's see what Sark does.

I don't think people realize how close that was to being a serious event. If it wasn't for the 10 assistant coaches, all of the referees, both teams and 50 yards separating he and Gundy, things might not have turned out as well as they did.

I don't even remember what the hubbub was. Did Gundy call him "Boy" or something? We all know those are legitimate fighting words and Herman should get a pass 😉

I thought these were more entertaining:
