Texas just spent a ton of money to let go of what most people would consider to be a fairly decent coach.
Sark has worked under Carroll and Saban, two of the most ruthless college coaches in the last 50 years. This move feels like Texas is all in and I have no doubt Sark told them what it would take to get back to the top.
The Texas admin must of committed to giving him what he wants, or he could have stayed in Bama with a Cush job for 3 million a year.
I would not be surprised to see Texas have a shockingly dramatic turn around in recruiting. It feels to me like Texas is finally willing to jump into the big boy pool.

Man you are right - I forgot that he was one of the highest paid asst coaches ever - but he hit the nail on the head, the history and traditions of Texas were appealing.

The hire just feels different. Being honest there is a lot of baggage with him that Texas normally would not overlook. It’s not the safest pick.

Yup. Seems like a super risky hire. We'll see what kind of staff he hires. That would alleviate a lot of my concerns if he hires an A+ staff.

The administration of the school has absolutely nothing to do with if the gloves are coming off or not. That is not how the game is played. But in the overall sense of what you are hoping for, I hope you are correct.

You’re supposed to yell, “Who’s with me?” We’re supposed to get up, cheer, and follow you anywhere.

Clearly, we want a contending football team. Willing to overlook brand issues we would have never considered during the Deloss era.

SE endzone delivered this change, no doubt.

It snowed 4" on New Years Eve and I thought it does not get any better than this, then we beat Kansas like a red-headed step-child in BB at their famed court, then we fired Herman and then have Sark ready to roll and I think I will wait to say "it does not get any better than this" until after our 5th National Championship in Football (I give Royal 3 Championships).

I don’t know that Sark will be successful, but the hire is interesting to me. A guy who made his bones under arguably one of the dirtiest recruiters in the game”Pete Carroll” and was let go due to a drinking problem.

it feels like Texas said f’k it, we’re need to win and if that means we have to get our hands dirty, so be it.

I’ve seen “jump into the big boy pool” a few times now. What does that mean? Pay players and other recruiting violations? Serious question, I’m curious if going forward we will have bag men with SEC-sized bags.

It’s not necessarily about paying players, but more about the entire infrastructure that Alabama, Ohio St. , and Clemson have built. The number and quality of assistants and analysts, the facilities and support staff, the recruiting coordinators. Currently Alabama out spends Texas by 10-15 million a year on it’s football program, annually. This hire makes me think that may be changing.

Got it, thanks. Seems like the administration should do many of those things (eg facilities) regardless of who the HC is. I don’t track our facilities projects, but I thought the hire of CDC represented us making this commitment and he had raised funds and kicked off a surprising number of upgrades across a lot of sports. I’ve definitely recognized an elevation of our digital media with CDC and the Leverage program too. I thought we had started with ‘Analysts’ too (e.g. Aranda). Glad to hear we’ll be doing more of these things.

He's got potential to be great. The fact that Saban trusted him as much as he did is about the best sign for future success we have.
He's gonna be fine. We (and the rest of the media) jumped at TH like he was the second coming.
Using more facts now.

Saban has built a program with a level of sophistication college football has never seen. Shadow analysts, greyshirting strategies, etc etc. Carroll was one of the most shrewd recruiters around. Given Sark’s record and baggage, this hire feels like it’s more about his knowledge and ability to build a similar program in Austin.

a potential OU flip, UT interest) but I’m not sure what schools have an opening for him right now due to a variety of factors. If Texas decides to push, I think the Longhorns have a good shot but it would probably come down to numbers.

DB Calvin Johnson – A name to file away. Johnson is committed to Navy as a quarterback but is starting to pick

right there with you on everything but the current “Cush job” he has. If you think working under Saban is a Cush job, you don’t know jack about the greatest college coach of all time.

Are used to think that we should win and win with ethics and taking the highroad

screw that I’m ready to cheat like an SEC team

I’ll concede working for Saban isn’t a Cush job. However the advantages of being a coordinator for Saban is that you have the best players in college football and the best resources and support. Little easier to call successful plays with the best o line and skill position players in college football.
