Saturday evening armchair quarterbacking

Yes Jacoby Jones. He might be out for the season. Collins batted down a pass. I have not followed the 2 deep the last couple of weeks and he was listed as backup to Jones. But they do move players around every week especially on the lines. He's a true soph. don't write him off. Same for Ford.

I watch the game intensely and while Wiley caught a td pass but I seemed to see Brewer in there more than Wiley. We threw another third down pass to Brewer behind the chains which was not converted. As usual. And Wiley has played well when called upon. And Brewer was listed as the strategy for yesterday's game as well. I'd like to find a state sheet. I'd like to see a stat sheet to see who was on the field more than the others.

And I went back and checked Collins was listed as a backup to Jones for yesterday's game.
Brewer is playing more because we are running the ball more than passing it. Brewer is the better blocker is the reason he is in more.

I'm not writing Collins off in any way. I like him a lot as a player. He played, and has played quite a bit.

We play a lot of multiple TE sets, 12 personnel as it were, which is why both started and you see both play a lot.

I would agree. But a very short leesh for coach K to show weekly improvement this year. Just remember how long it too Strong to fire Watson and Herman to fire Beck. The delay cost him their jobs. I like Sark and don’t want any liabilities just for the aake of giving too much time when it is fairly obvious to everybody else.
You know Kwiatovsky was with Chris Petersen for a long time and together they sent a lot of players to the NFL especially at WA. He's sent a lot of players to the NFL some were #1 draft pics including last year. In fact WA can lay claim to being dbu just as much as LSU.

He's got his man Jeff Choate with him as lb coach and they've had a lot of success together. We've had 24 hours to get over this. We still have a season to play.

As I've gone over yesterday's game I realize this is true emotions got the better of me. With the players we have at wr and rb Wiley won't get many touches but he catches everything they throw to him. But our ol needs a lot of help so he has to block more than catch.

did I miss any?

When I saw Sorrell in there I did my best curious George. I scratched my head and had a quizzical look on my face. He and the New Orleans kid were 2 of the 4 least likely to contribute during their time at TX. But what do I know?

I imagine Coburn, Ojomo, and Collins had higher scores in the first half. Time of possession just killed us we were exhausted at the end of the game. Not substituting at all? In that heat? I have hopes for Murphy he was lightly recruited but the TCU game showed he had some heart. The rest of the season is a gut check for our team.

Ha, I think that covers it, lol.

I have access to all games past and future now, so just ask

OL season grades ranking vs. the rest of the country...

We have 6 OL that have played 20% of the snaps this year. Here is their national ranking vs. other OL that have played at least 20% of their teams' snaps.

Okafor 96th
Angilau 108th
Kerstetter 272nd
Karic 481st
Majors 570th
Jones 675th

...uh

...that's

...uh

...not very good

hey thanks for helping me out and seeing things I didn't see yesterday. I hope OSU doesn't have a good offense.

It's not great. The QB is solid. The OL is certainly better than ours, but they have struggled against the likes of Missouri State and Tulsa. They do have a very good defense. Their DL will give our OL fits. Some because they're good but mostly we're not.

I'm sure they'll get some missing players back this week, just like very team, lol.

But honestly, we should beat them pretty solidly.

I really liked the hire and still do to a certain extent. Coach K simply didn't stop the bleeding and that is his job. Our players don't suck that bad, on the contrary these players were highly recruited. In the second half, ou had the ball 8 times and we stopped them only twice out of the 8. Like I said, this has to be fixed by end of year in whatever way coach K can. That is his job

Good lord does this mean we'll be playing Hayden Connor now? And the other ol recruit Max Merrill is. the lowest rated recruit in the class. But hey were still ranked.

I had to get this post out because I haven't been able to wrap my mind around this defense. I am not in favor of firing Kwiatkowsky, however, there is no more room for what we have seen in missed tackles and an overall undependable defense. We are half way through the season and the junk and slop should be somewhat limited by now. It is this year of bust for me in being in Kwiatkowski's corner. Look below, we have more 4* than probably any defense in the Big 12 and we have upper classmen. PK needs to do whatever the hell he needs to do. Win now and play defense now. If not now, then when? When we have all 5* or the cliche of give them time to get his recruits? No way. Not for me.

Secondary:
BJ Foster Sr 5*
D'shawn Jamison Sr 4*
Anthony Cook Sr 4*
Chris Adimora Jr 4*
Josh Thompson Sr 4*
Ishmael Ibraheem Fr 4*
Kitan Crawford So 4*

Defensive Line:
Keondre Coburn Jr 4*
Alfred Collins So 4*
Vernon Broughton RFr 4*
Myron Warren So 4*
Moro Ojomo Jr 3*
T'vondre sweat Jr 3*

Edge:
Ben Davis Sr 5*
Jacoby Jones Sr 4*
Prince Dorbah RFr 4*
DJ Harris Fr 4*
Ray Thornton Sr 4*
Jordan Thomas Fr 4*
Ovie Oghoufo Jr 3*
Barryn Sorrell Fr 3*

LB:
Demarvion Overshown Sr 4*
David Gbenda So 4*
Terrence Cooks So 4*
Aodele Adeoye Jr 4*
Luke Brockermeyer Jr 3*
Jaylin Ford So 3*

Some notes on this...if we want a bit deeper dive

When has Foster ever been a guy we haven't complained about?
Jamison is our best corner that is not playing well. That isn't scheme, he's just not playing well.
Cook is far and away our best player. He was moved to a position where he could make plays all over the field...this is a win for the coaches in my book
Adimora is a head scratcher to me. He was decent last year, but doesn't play this year. IDK
Thompson has given up 10 catches this year in 6 games. 160 total yards, 40 of which came on one play. Receivers have only 9 YAC on him. He's doing just fine
Ibraheem isn't ready man
Crawford I don't think played aginst OU, had 4 snaps against TCU and 2 against Tech

I'll look at the other position groups later.

I get your point, weevil, but the thing is, they are the coaches that have to coach the bad habits out or find somebody else. We can complain from the cheap seats, but the coaches are in a position to do something about it. If they can't coach up a 4* or 5*, there really isn't any hope. They have a group of superior athletes that many coaches would drool over. ou has more 3* playing than we do and they seem to be doing okay.. We have the Jimmies and the Joes and all we lack is for the X's and O's people to figure something out.

But it isn't the X's and O's IMO. We don't have any guys that can get after the QB. If you can't pressure the QB then that puts more pressure on your secondary. We also are razor thin at LB and Brockermeyer is a liability in the passing game.

Therein lies the problem. You countered my whole premise and that is cool. I could be wrong. My contention is that I have taken a stand at the problem at its very core with this defense. This is why I took the time to look at the roster and identified player, position, class and rank. We have more 4* and up than most universities across the land and more than any in the Big 12. PK must put design something to make this defense more effective now. There is plenty of film in the games we have played that show the consequences of not wrapping up. The frustration has surpassed the "Max Pain" threshold. When will others reach Max Pain? The ou loss cost Texas dearly and not just the win/loss column. They earned some top recruits while we probably lost some. They are driving to yet another Big 12 championship and very likely the playoffs.

We went from spear diving and completely missing players under Orlando to rugby style tackling under Ash to this shoulder bump and arm tacking under Pete K. If I was to chose I think I prefer the rugby style that Ash was teaching because it seemed to work the best. This was pretty much all with the same group of players. Coaching does matter.

I liked what Ash was doing as well. However, I very much hate the run hard and hit KJ Jefferson, Kennedy Brooks, Calen Williams, Zach Evans and then bounce off approach.

@westx I've said this before and I'll say it again. Over the last 10 years we have had poor player development . We all agree on this but coach K needs time he can't fix it in 1 year. With another year the younger guys will be more familiar with what he wants. And we have a lot of seniors who won't be back next year so I hope we will see an improvement next year.

Also coach K has a much better resume for player development than any dc since Muschamp. Once he had a couple of years WA played lights out on d. He had a lot of first round draft picks one of them was last year and there have been others. Under his tutelage WA has just as much claim to dbu as LSU.

Patience guys cause we have to. And as always

I can meet you part of the way. Specifically in this way. Yes, he will need a little time for a "championship" defense. However, for what we have seen against ou/arky-never again. The time is now.
