School Staffer Fired After "Light-Hearted" Tweet Goes Viral

FREDERICK, MD (WHAG/CNN) – After sending what she thought was a lighthearted tweet to a student correcting their spelling, a school staff member found herself fired.

Katie Nash, 34, says she was terminated from her job at Frederick County Public Schools after sending a tweet Jan. 5 to a student hoping for a snow day.

“Close school ‘tammarow’ please,” the student tweeted, complete with the misspelling.

Using the school district’s Twitter account, she replied to the student as part of her job as Web Experience Coordinator.

“But then how would you learn how to spell ‘tomorrow’? :)” Nash tweeted.
