Some quick-hitter updates on several of the Longhorns’ top remaining targets …
--- As most of you probably saw earlier today, Texas extended an offer to DE/LB Mike Williams today.
Williams told us last week that the Longhorns were his leader. He visited Tennessee last week and will visit Texas this week. Williams told me tonight that Tennessee did make a strong impression on his visit, but coming into this weekend’s UT visit, Texas is still the team to beat. His words. This one looks good, assuming the weekend visit goes well.
--- St. John’s College High (Washington D.C.) DE Caleb Okechukwu will visit Texas this weekend, Tennessee on January 26 and Arkansas on February 2. Talked to him tonight, and this one’s really a two-team race right now between Texas and Tennessee. He talks to Oscar Giles pretty much every single day and is really looking forward to getting a good look at Texas this weekend.
--- As we mentioned earlier in the week, Texas did an in-home Lawrence Keys tonight. Things went very well.
Keys told me shortly after the visit ended that he’ll take an official visit to Texas next weekend.
Keys will visit Notre Dame this weekend, Texas next weekend and then finish off with an SMU visit.
--- As I mentioned earlier today, things are trending very well for Texas with defensive end Daniel Carson. Talked to someone on the Nebraska side, and it sounds like the Huskers are pretty much conceding that this one isn’t going their way, barring a last-minute change. I also have reason to believe Texas feels good about its chances.
--- Not much new to report on defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, who has gone silent on me. He has already visited OU and I believe will be at Notre Dame this weekend. Per a Katy source, I’m told this one will probably come down to Texas, Texas A&M or OU. Same source said he is still expected to take visits to both Texas and Texas A&M. I also heard that TCU is trying to make a late push, which was new to me.
--- Lastly, LB DaShaun White did an in-home with Texas A&M tonight. He’s still committed to OU, but it sounds like the door is open just a bit. Don’t think it’ll be Texas though. White said Texas did try to set up a meeting but he’s planning to stay focused on OU and A&M, to a lesser degree.
