I listened to a fascinating lecture last weekend about cratering under pressure. The point was there is no reason, it just happens. People know a subject cold and freeze during a speech. Athletes miss pitches, catches, passes that are so practiced and second nature, it should never happen- yet it does. We all get the yips in our lives on much smaller stages, and it does not make us quitters or weak, just human.
I congratulate Simone Biles on understanding she just did not have it....and gave another teammate a shot.
