Smu beats Houston 38-16

I know he just beat our future coach. That being said...Herman's stock is dropping.

Chad Morris was the Clemson OC 2 years ago. Aggie alum. Doing a solid job trying to rebuild SMU. Up and coming guy in my opinion.

How many do you think Houston could drop and Herman still get the job? They aren't exactly getting beat by Bama, Ohio State, or LSU.

Houston definitely looks like a different team than the one who beat Florida St and OU. I wonder what happened.

Look at Ohio St. offense w/o Herman. A notch less productive w/o his playing calling. I think teams have now adjusted to Houston's quick footed WR turned QB, and they're still kind of a one trice pony. I understand he's been injured all year too; something with the shoulder. Houston doesn't have the next guy to step up.

Best thing that has happened to UT. Maybe they will see Herman isnt the answer.

Is 9-3 at Houston good enough, to get the huge promotion? I think Petrino will teach Herman a lesson or two, I also think Petrino is excellent.

Herman is a gamble. Chip Kelly is the real deal as is a number of other and I would be happy with Bobby Petrino if he came here knowing what we expect of him. What the hell am I talking about, dude in Austin is like an addict in a crack house.

Texas needs a sure thing, or as close as we can get. My top 3 are

1. Chip Kelly
2. John Harbaugh
3. Sean Payton

After that I'd go for Tom Herman and Dabo Sweeney

Briles, Sumlin, and Herman have been the last coaches at Houston. Herman has been there the shortest amount of time, but he has done the best in his first 2 years there. His coaching tree is from Mack Brown and Urban Meyer. He won a national title as an OC at Ohio State.

Briles and Sumlin would be an upgrade over Strong. Herman's first 2 years at Houston indicate he is better than they are. I am willing to go for Herman.

Not enough body of work for Herman, to get the Texas job. Lots of people wanted Strong because he won a National title under Urban Meyer. His body of work over at Louisville was about the same as Herman's is right now. Strong was supposed to be the developer of 2'star talent into NFL draft picks.

Well, fool me once, we need a proven coach not a guy who might be great. When we got Mack, he was a head coach at two different programs before he came here. He was a proven coach.

BTW Strong isn't the first coach we took that wasn't ready for this level of job. Akers fired long time DC David McWilliams who went to Texas Tech and had a very good season. The fillowing year Texas fired Akers and brought in McWilliams, and he when on to suck slightly less than Strong has.

We need a proven coach, not a guy that might be good.

I see what you are saying. All I am saying, is I believe Herman to be as good as Briles or Sumlin. Therefore, we should interview him.

I wouldn't say Payton and Harbaugh are "sure things". They are great coaches but coaching in college is a little different deal. Now Harbaugh comes from a college family, so he's probably a bit better prepared. We don't know how they'd do though.

I think if you want a sure thing you go to Aubrun and get Malzahn. He's had Aubrun in the title hunt. I think he'd be a monster at a place like Texas. I've read before to that he wants the job.

If I couldn't get him I'd go Brian Harsin. Similar resume to Herman a little more expierence.

Dabo will probably hang out at Clemson till Bama comes open. As an alum and successful coach you'd have to think he'd be a top choice to replace Saban

I would put out feelers and get an idea of guys on the pro level to see if any of them are interested in moving down to the college level including the two guys that Clob is in love with Mike Tomlin and Dan Quinn. I like Kelly because after Saban and Meyer he has been the most successful college coach. He also has the same problems that Saban had, his coaching style doesn't fly in the NFL like it did in college.

I like John Harbaugh, because I think he sees the success his brother is having at Michigan and knows he can do the same at a school like Texas.

I like Sean Payton for obvious reasons, but I also acknowledge he might be the hardest one to attract to the college level.

If we can't attract a proven coach, then I'd put Herman at the top of my list of what is left.

Something to keep in mind about Tomlin. He currently makes 7 million per season. And probably had the most job security of any NFL coach not named Bellichek. I'd love it but he ain't coming here. When he was DC of the Vikings did Red McCombs still own them?

What makes Sean Payton a sure thing? He's been getting stomped for the last few years and has an elite QB. Plus he has baggage like some of the other coaches, didn't he get suspended for a while?
