So Tom Herman really is going to be our coach next season?

Seems it will happen. Things seems status quo. Noise has died down from the media, signed an average recruiting class etc. seems as if del Conte etc just hoping that this time makes us all apathetic and before you know it, 2021 season is here with Tommy leading the way. Tell me I’m wrong.

U ain’t.

It appears so, but wait until after CFB playoffs are done to confirm.

Everyone has said that if anything happens, it will be after the playoffs. So let's just wait and see instead of assuming silence means anything.

Everything now is speculation and conjecture. I'll take the other side and say CDC and the powers that be are waiting for the playoffs to be over to or close enough to the conclusion of the season that coaches can be poached without upsetting playoff/bowl game prep. Nothing said by the Texas side instills any certainty in Tom returning. So, no, Tom will not be our coach. I know, I know, I'll be disappointed will be the refrain. Tom and his disastrous coaching, coaching staff decisions, recruiting, and freefall behind both the gurgling jizz jars and meth maestros will be shown the door.

To be clear everyone was not saying that two weeks ago. Two weeks ago everyone said as soon as regular season was over. When everyone was wrong, they changed it to after CFP. I wonder what everyone will be saying after CFP is over?

After NSD2.

When that comes and goes with no change, they will then say "after spring training."

When that comes and goes with no change, they will then say "right before the players report in August.

When that comes and goes with no change and Herman opens the season as our head coach, they will then say "right after he loses again to OU."

When that comes and goes with no change, they will then say "at the end of the regular season" again.

Wash, rise, repeat.

I’m curious to see if he loses whatever terrible bowl game we play, if that is used as an excuse to fire him.

Exploration will continue, but I don't sense a move unless an A-lister can be brought in and A-listers exist in fewer numbers than we'd all like to believe,
Depends on how "A-lister" is defined, doesn't it? When your current coach is a D-lister, the opportunities to improve the situation become far more numerous.

Other schools treat situations like the one Herman and CDC have created at UT as if the coach was already fired and go out and get the best replacement they can find. We can all criticize that approach, but I have a hard time thinking of a single other tradition-rich program that has as poor a record hiring decent football coaches while pretending to only look for "A-listers" as Texas does.

This is not a criticism of you - it's a criticism of our endless-clownshow athletics department.

He will be gone right after the OU drubbing next year will be the next refrain

If you're trying to get a new coach, unless you want someone whose season is done (and therefore, might be kind of mediocre), then it always had to be after the season was completely done. Regarding UM, who I don't think is coming but others think is still possible, he would have to wait until after the CFP to get his guys.

Edit: To be clear, I think Herman will be here next year. However, if something is going to happen, the silence doesn't mean much between now and January.

we have to face the facts, CDC is a fraud and has no clue what he is going. The job is way too big for CDC, we are going to be in a very bad place while he is still employed.

At the last possible date, we will know without a doubt whether he returns is around the superbowl. Only two teams left playing at that point. Unless the coach will come from one of those two teams, CFP will be wrapped up and so will the other NFL playoff games, then there’s your answer.

It'd be nice if most actually knew A-listers rarely get hired. At the end of the day, 12 HCs have won the last 20 national titles. TWO were "A-list hires" at the time.

And for the foreseeable future. I think with a QB who delivers consistently for wins in crunch time - we will see different results, for the positive. Love Sam, but . . . There've been critical moments in Texas NCs and big games. From Duke Carlisle to James Street to James Brown to VY, most of us can remember make or break plays, moments, drives - where they came through to will their team on to wins. I'm hoping we have somebody at QB next year that will turn around everything. I see an improved defense and offense and some unusual (for us lately) great critical-moment plays. And our perceptions of TH will change. Criticize, argue or tease - that's fine, but this is my hopeful thought this morning. Have a good, safe and happy day everybody.

If this happens, our leadership doesn't care about winning. The best thing that could happen is a significant drop in attendance, BMD $$ drying up, and LHN cancelations. Time to vote with your wallet as it seems this is the only thing that matters.

So if Herman goes 8-4 in 2021 which is very likely and no A lister presents itself next year (which is also very likely), they'll just roll the train back for 2022?

So basically, prior incompetent handling of the head coaching job has now paralyzed everyone in involved for fear of making another mistake because they know they suck at it.

This is going on three presidents and three ADs now in 10 years.

I am going to hold out a little hope until about mid-January. If he is still the coach on NSD2 then he will be the coach in 2021. I am having a hard time believing that the person I met in Dallas (CDC), is this dumb. It seems impossible unless he has suffered some sort of traumatic brain injury in the last few years.
