- Irving Cistercian Prep quarterback Matthew Merrick has been talking to the UT coaches for a while (he camped at UT twice in the summer), and he got quite a bit of attention from Shawn Watson on his visit this weekend.

Merrick showed up a couple hours early to mingle with other recruits and players. A little before game time. Watson came into the players' lounge and spent about 20 minutes talking to Merrick and his father. Merrick said during the conversation he looked up at the TV in the lounge for a second and it was showing the UT QBs warming up, so he thought it was pretty cool that Watson was taking the time to speak to him at that moment.

There's been no offer presented yet, but Merrick is very high on Texas. Watson informed him the UT staff is still going through the process of evaluating its QB options. Merrick and Watson talk weekly and Merrick sounds like he's willing to be patient to see how things play out.

- Houston Kincaid WR Sam Mays, who is committed to Illinois, was also at the game. Mays camped at Texas on June 8.

Not a lot of details on the visit yet other than Mays saying "It was a great experience" via text. We'll check back with the 6-3, 180-pounder this week for more details.

- Cibolo Steele 2016 DE Mark Jackson has been on campus a couple times since picking up a Texas offer not too long ago.

Jackson has told us he's pretty open but described the ISU-UT game as an "Exhilarating and competitive game."

- 2016 LB Jeffrey McCulloch (UT offer) and 2016 WR Reggie Hemphill (UT commitment) were unable to attend the game.

- Word hit our board last night that Texas had offered Orlando Oak Ridge ATH Deangelo Antoine, a South Florida commitment.

I'm told per a team source that Texas has not offered.

- In case you missed our update on Tallahassee Lincoln WR John Burt on Saturday.

Burt, a Rivals100 member, took an official visit to Auburn a couple weeks ago and has gone on the record of late saying he's still committed to Texas but is exploring his options. He scheduled a last-minute unofficial visit to UT for this weekend.

"I had a good time seeing the staff again and getting a chance to see the team play live," Burt said. "I am just considering all the options and weighing everything at this point."

It sounds like the visit went well, but things are still up in the air for 6-2, 180-pound Burt. Burt said he did not talk to the staff this weekend about setting up an official visit to Texas, so those plans still have not been finalized.

Burt told us he has a pretty hectic day today but we're going to try to catch up with him today or tomorrow for a more detailed update when he has more time.
