As a long-time fan and alum ('84) I have suffered through enough $hitty seasons to appreciate the quality of the last two, and especially appreciate the improvement we have witnessed in QB play. Really no comparison vs the years prior to Ewers taking the reins. I totally get the desire to defend him and his play--I personally am a big fan of his both as a person and, as mentioned, as a player. But in looking dispassionately at the season as it has unfolded, I am really struggling to see anything resembling improvement over last year. I am starting to wonder if Texas is seeing "the good is the enemy of the best" ? Are we looking at Quinn having plateaued, and playing JUST good enough to get us to the SEC Championship by virtue of us playing pretty much the bottom 8 of the conference? We can only play the teams on our schedule, but would we have the same record if we had played Ole Miss, Alabama, USC?
I think Quinn at his best is an amazing player. But why are we talking every other game about needing to "get Quinn comfortable" etc? He's played 3 seasons now...those are not questions we should be asking, nor should we be scheming around his deficiencies. I'm not just talking about the future and the '25-26 seasons, but are we jeopardizing our ceiling THIS season by sticking with Quinn over Arch? Lots of folks on X mocking the very IDEA of questioning Ewers because we keep winning. Fair enough. And I hope he goes on a tear and destroys A&M, wins the SEC, and makes a run at the CFP Championship. But if we lose at A&M and get left out of the CFP and go to a meaningless bowl, will we be forced to wonder "what if?"
One last question: if you were determined to stick with Quinn and wanted to maximize his performance, what would you do? I would like some designed runs for him early in games; I think him getting some contact early loosens him up. He's no Milroe, but he really isn't a stature, and a few called running plays would get his feet moving in a good way.
