I was a High School Defensive Coordinator in Texas for over 20 years. Whatever defense you run, there is always a weak spot. What Georgia did to Texas was play a lot of guys near the line of scrimmage to defend the run and quick screens. They also played two high safeties to keep Texas from throwing over the top. So, what was open? The 15-20 yard zone, in the middle of the field, between to LBs who were getting almost no depth in their drops, and the safeties who were dropping deep. Quinn hit Golden once for a big gain in the third quarter, but the dig route was open all night. I saw at least two other times, on third downs, when receivers were wide open in that zone, and Ewers threw to other receivers, or checked down. The one pass Arch threw incomplete to Moore, a receiver was wide open in the middle of the field. In order to attack that area, the QB must step up in the pocket, and find a window to throw through. Early in the year, that was a strength for Ewers. Since returning from his injury, not so much.
