During my research for a recent column, I watched Steve Sarkisian's signing day press conference at USC in 2015. One thing that stood out is Sarkisian said if the staff ever signs an out-of-state player, it is because they believe he could emerge into a draft pick. I wondered if that philosophy applied at Texas.
I reminded Sarkisian of what he said during that press conference on Wednesday at Big 12 Media Days. I asked Sarkisian if he felt the same way during the breakout session; nothing changed.
"Yeah, for sure," Sarkisian said. "When we get out of state, that guy's got to have in our minds a projectable opportunity to be a high-round draft pick. That doesn't always work out like that, but at least we can see that projection with an opportunity of what he could be down the road."
Keep that recruiting nugget in the back of your mind, especially with the recent verbal commitment of Melvin Hills.
