Texas offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert addressed the media during his weekly press conference on Tuesday. Gilbert spoke for a little more than 10 minutes prior to his team’s game against Iowa State on Saturday.

Here are the highlights of Gilbert’s media availability:

- Texas quarterback Shane Buechele told media members there were a few throws against Oklahoma he wanted to have back. Gilbert was asked how he manages Buechele after games and said, “For him, and his growth and development, he understands what throws he should have made, and balls that he should have completed. That’s part of coaching as well, from my aspect of it. Again, he’s a guy that wants to be really, really good. Every day he’s in progress of doing that. He’s as hard and as critical of himself as I am of him as a coach. With him, it’s just about him growing and developing, understanding what plays are there, and what plays he needs to make. The positive thing is for his age and where he’s at, and experience, he’s done a really good job of continuing to do these things."

- Gilbert said he knew running back Kyle Porter would get reps against Oklahoma, but it would depend on D’Onta Foreman’s health. Foreman battled through an abdominal injury to play on Saturday.

- When asked about his expectations of Foreman this season, Gilbert said he was unsure what he might see until the Notre Dame game. Even though they evaluated players in the spring and during two-a-days, Gilbert said the true evaluation – on any level – occurs when the lights come on.

- Here is Gilbert on Foreman: “He’s a guy we’re definitely excited about. That’s why you ride with a guy like that. Like I told you after the game, he’s a battler. He was not 100 percent healthy, and the kid went out there and was determined. He fought. He battled for the yards he got. He puts us in a situation to possibly win that game late in the game. That’s the kind of player he is. He’s just done a great job of carrying a heavy load, a big load for us right now, especially since Chris (Warren) went down.”

- Gilbert said they are giving Lil’Jordan Humphrey a look at running back. The offensive coordinator described Humphrey as skilled and athletic. Gilbert said, “It’s a position where we are going to see how it fits, and how it feels for him. We’ll just go from there.” In addition, Gilbert said Humphrey sees holes and schemes well.

- Gilbert on the biggest adjustment he has made this season: “I’ll go back to the evaluation of my personnel. Just making sure that your personnel is right. Like I said, you can evaluate all through spring and summer camp, but until the lights come on, and until you get in the game situations and scenarios, how guys are going to play, how guys are going to respond, those are things you still have to look at and figure out.”

- Gilbert said he still likes the 18-wheeler package, and they still plan to use it. He would not say if Swoopes would receive more passing opportunities to avoid defenders stacked in the box.

- Here is Gilbert’s explanation for not throwing across the middle: “Again, we’ve got a scheme. We've got a plan. The way we want to utilize it, the way we want to take it is how we want to do it. It’s just something we haven’t gotten into this fall yet.”
