This week potentially being Sam Ehlinger's final home game in a Longhorn uniform got me thinking about where he should rank among the list of All-Time Longhorn QB Icons.
Below is my list - would love to see yours:
1. Vince Young and it isn't close.
2. Bobby Layne and it is close.
3. James Street and his 20-game winning streak, including the 1969 national championship.
3. [Tie] Colt McCoy and his national championship that was interrupted by tragic injury.
5. Sam Ehlinger and his 3 big bowl game wins.
6. James Brown, the hardest working QB in show business and his thrilling 1995 win over the Aggies while basically playing on one leg. And let's don't forget that huge win over Nebraska in the 1996 Big 12 CG.
7. Marty Akins, the first consensus All-America wishbone QB.
8. Chris Simms - just to piss the Major Applewhite cult off
8. [Tie] Major Applewhite - a tie just to placate the Major Applewhite cult
10. Duke Carlisle, and his 1963 national championship.
10. [Tie] Eddie Phillips and his 1970 national championship.
That's how I'd rank them. Any criticisms are welcome.
Hook 'em!!!
