just because nothing better today except be bitter and add another Pierce thread.

so this is just strictly going down the current rankings and excluding all SEC teams/HC's.

The SEC by far is most dominant conference in college baseball so I won't get into the HC specifics. Money talks in most cases so anyone can be enticed away if the situation is right.

SEC currently in rankings
Piggy 2, LSU 3, FL 4, aggy 7, Tenn 8, Vanda 9, Bama 15, AUB 19, USC 21

a Few non SEC candidates per current ranking

(1) - Wake Forest - Tom Walter / 48 yo
28 yrs as HC; overall 855-668-1
At Wake since 2010; 429-340-1
Only 3 total seasons finishing 3rd or higher in ACC.
1 total CWS appearance last year

Is his resume strong enough for Texas....not too sure.

(5) - TCU - Kirk Saarloos / 44 yo
3 yrs as HC all at TCU; overall 95-46
1 CWS appearance

up and coming, young, energetic... I like him... I'd be good with him.

(6) - Oregon St - Mitch Canham / 39 yo
4 yrs as a HC all at OSU; overall 131-71
No CWS appearances
Played at OSU under Pat Casey

Most likely a lifer there; HC title is called the Pat Casey Head Coach; I'm sure a huge and prestigious honor to any coach there especially who played there and under Casey. He is likely there for a long time.

(10) - Clemson - Erik Bakich / 46 yo
15 yrs as HC; overall 451-334
2nd yr at Clem current 53-20 record
Previous 10 at Michigan
1 CWS appearance as runner up at Michigan

Don't really see him as someone Texas would be interested in.

(12) - Duke - Chris Pollard
25 yrs as HC; overall 735-561-2
Last 12 with Duke 350-255
No CWS appearances

not enough skins on the wall to be interested.

(13) - Virginia - Brian O'Connor / 52 yo (RIP, loved you in Fast and Furious)
20 yrs HC all at Virginia, overall 839-353-2
6 CWS appearances; runner up 2014, Champs 2015; 17 overall post seasons

umm yeah..I know he has been hot topic many times and he likely never leaves and retires there.
Not quite sure on his salary, looks like 1.2, just signed extension in 21 thru 27. Buyout 400k? Maybe someone can find better specifics. But make that call again and double what he makes now and make him say NO and to never call back again. He'd be on my list of top 3 speed dials.

(16) - North Carolina - Scott Forbes
4 yrs as a HC ; overall 117-75 all at UNC
No CWS appearances

meh

(17) - Everything runs thru Lubbock
hooo boyyy my #1 target
Timmy Tadlock / 55 yo
21 yrs as a HC; overall 865-344
JUCO - Grayson 435-127 with 5 JUCO WS appearances
4 CWS appearances with sand aggy
13 total post season appearances

MAKE HIM SAY FCK NO!!
Does he want to stay at Tech forever....does he despise Texas and have no interest at all.
Or does he want to go to the King Conference and play with the all the bad boys....it just means more right?
this Lifetime contract thingy...is it enough to not get him?
Again I'm not good on the contract specifics but looks like around 1.1 mill or little less, with a 2.6 buyout?
PAY THE BUYOUT AND TRIPLE HIS SALARY.
he's my #1 if at all possible.

(20) - Dallas Baptist - Dan Heefner / 46 yo
17 yrs as a HC ; overall 618-312-1 all at DBU
No CWS appearances; 12 post season appearances

really like him as a coach; I'd be very ok with him, probably my #3 behind Tadlock and O'Connor.

couple notable others

(11) - East Carolina - Cliff Godwin / 46 yo
10 yrs as HC all at ECU; overall 358-174-1
No CWS appearances; 7 post seasons

(18) - Coastal Carolina - Gary Gilmore
overall 1335-674-5
D2 USC Aiken (South Carolina) 253-102-2
CC 1082-572-3
1 D2 CWS appearance
1 CWS appearance 2016 Champs
20 overall post season appearances

quite the resume and skins.
