RECAP

The Longhorns bounced back in a big way behind a glittering start from LHP Luke Harrison and in the end run rule Ole Miss to get their first win of the season.

The game started out tentatively as Harrison got a 1-2-3 first frame, while the Maddox struck out the side to complete the first.

In the 2nd second, Harrison gave up a 1 out double, but bounced back with a soft groundout and a strikeout to end the scoring threat. The Horns got a 1 out single from Tommy Farmer, but he was picked off at 1B when he was caught leaning and then Will Gasparino grounded out to end the frame.

In the 3rd inning, Luke Harrison hit a batter with 1 out, but put up another zero as he got a pair of strikeouts and a groundout. In the bottom half of the frame, the Horns got a 2 out single from Ethan Mendoza, his first as a Horn, but Maddoz fanned three in the frame to put up another zero.

In the 4th inning, Harrison again put up another zero despite a runner reaching first base on an error by freshman Adrian Rodriguez, with some help from Rylan Galvan who made a perfect throw down to 2B so that Jalin Flores could apply the tag on the runner. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Horns offense got going in a big way.

Adrian Rodriguez led off the inning with a double to left CF.
Jalin Flores follow up with a single to CF putting runners on 1B and 3B. Jalin Flores then stole 2B to put two runners in scoring position.
Max Belyeu then laced one through the right side to score Adrian from 3B giving the Horns a 1-0 lead.
Tommy Farmer then reached base on a hit by pitch, loading the bases.
Will Gasparino came to the plate a delivered, hitting a double to LF, plating two runs to make it 3-0 Texas.
Easton Winfield then grounded out to the pitcher for the 1st out of the inning.
Rylan Galvan got the action going again by hitting a single to CF, scoring two more runs to make it 5-0 Texas and prompting Ole Miss to go to the bullpen.
Ethan Mendoza drew a walk on the new pitcher Tookoian.
Kimble Schuessler then hit a double to left CF plating Galvan to make it 6-0 Texas.
Adrian Rodriguez came back to the plate as the Horns batted around in the inning and drew a walk.
Jalin Flores then capped off the scoring in the 4th by drawing a walk to make it 7-0 Texas. TOUCHDOWN!

In the Top 5th, Luke Harrison came out and again got the Rebels to go down 1-2-3. In the Bottom of the 5th inning, the Horns likewise went down 1-2-3 as the freshman southpaw Hooks did a good job of keeping the hitters off balance.

In the Top 6th, Harrison gave up a 2 out single, but that was it as he again kept the hitters off balance with a solid mix of pitches. In the bottom 6th, the Horns went down in order as Hooks continued to impress.

In the Top 7th, Harrison got a ground out, but then issued a walk and hit the next batter, putting two runners on. Schlossnagle wasted no time and brought in RHP Thomas Burns to put out the fire. Pumping 95-97 on the gun, Burns got the next two hitters out to keep the shutout alive.

In the Bottom 7th, Ole Miss went to the pen and brought in Landon Waters. He immediately hit Jalin Flores in the back with a 91mph fastball to put the lead off man on. Max Belyeu then opened his account for the year, hitting a no doubter to the Texas bullpen in RF to give the Horns a 9-0 lead. Tommy Farmer then hit a sharp grounder to 3B, but the Ole Miss defender made a great play to get the first out. The offense was not done though as Will Gasparino hit a triple to RF, putting the winning run just 90 feet away with only 1 out. Ole Miss again went to the pen and brought in Gunnar Dennis. Texas countered by sitting Easton Winfield and bringing in freshman Cole Chamberlain who put together a mature at-bat and drew a walk. Chamberlain then stole 2B putting two runners in scoring position with just 1 out. After Rylan Galvan struck out, Ethan Mendoza came to the plate and on the second pitch he saw hit a screaming liner to LF to walk it off.

BIG MOMENT

With runners on 2B and 3B and two outs, sophomore Ethan Mendoza delivered by hitting a liner into LF to drive in the run and earn the Horns their first victory of the season via run rule.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE

Cool Hand Luke Harrison went 6.1 IP, giving up 2 H, 1 BB, 2 HBP, and 6K on the night.
