-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mid-Week Preview:
  • Opponent: UTSA Roadrunners
  • Date: Tues March 17th
  • Time: 630pm
  • Where: Disch-Falk Field
  • TV: SEC Network+

Horns v. Roadrunners is on deck.

Will Texas be Wiley E. Coyote and continually swing and miss for the prize, or will the Coyote win out and eat the speedy bird?

The Roadrunners are a really good offensive team, that has the ability to hit for average and move runners over on the base paths. They are a talented bunch that has faced a number of tough teams this season (Baylor, Texas A&M, and Dallas Baptist), and will be looking to add a Bevo to their wall. On the other hand, the Horns have reeled off 17 wins in a row, not having lost since the first game of the season, led by a much improved pitching staff. After an up and down weekend from the bats this past weekend in Starkville, can the top of the lineup (Max Belyeu, Jalin Flores, and Adrian Rodriguez) get things going? Texas needs the lineup, which has dangerous hitters one through nine to get more of a rhythm, instead of getting hot and cold performances across weekends.

I expect that Texas will throw a lot of not often used arms tonight as Coach Schlossnagle will not want to tax the pitching staff at all ahead of a weekend show down against the #2 team in the nation. That could obviously lead to a more offensive game, so it will be interesting to see how tonight goes. The Horns staff will not just throw a game away, but they also have to be smart about load management.

Overall, this should be a great contest as UTSA has shown that they can hit and beat a big team on the road (now is where you all smirk about Texas A&M losing to UTSA earlier this season).
