Texas lost the opener. It was not a whiskey induced dream, it happened. Texas had multiple chances to put the game away and were within a pitch or two of doing so, but baseball is a cruel mistress and will take advantage of any opening you give it. The good news is that today is a new opportunity for the Horns to get back on the proverbial bike and take the field.
As Jim Schlossnagle and team take the field, they do so looking for their first win of the season and also to try and break a streak of 9 consecutive games lost at Globe Life. NINE. Whether the Horns sacrifice a live chicken, drink some of Jobu's rum, or kick @MB-HORNS out of the building, they need to find a way to erase that.
The Horns take on the Ole Miss Rebels tonight, and though they are both in the SEC, it will not count as a conference game. In fact, the only reason they are playing each other is because David Pierce agreed to play them based on the fact that Ole Miss and Texas were not playing a conference series this year.
For those freaking out about the aforementioned opening night loss to Louisville. Take a depth breath. With the number of question marks around the pitching rotation coming into the season, there was always going to be an adjustment period for the staff to find the right player for each of the roles. In addition, the Texas offense has a lot of talent and experience and will not perform like they did last night. If anything, it was a great learning experience for the Horns in facing ace Patrick Forbes, as that is the kind of talent they will see littered throughout the SEC.
The Horns simply need to flush yesterday and move on. It is a new day and a new opportunity.
