This group is not a group of superstars like 2004-2009. But they are really good. Their sum greatly outweighs their individual parts. This group excels at two things: tackling and not giving up big pass plays. Also, there seems to be some clearly defined roles while having 3 players that are extremely versatile in the back end. They are good at a lot of aspects of being a DB.
Manny Muhammad - just a pure cover corner. What’s makes him so good is his speed, length, quickness, and confidence. He is not even getting challenged.
Jahdae Barron- his instincts and aggressive and his technique. He seems to do a good job of recognizing plays and routes and then reacts. Sark has been saying it but he can play everywhere.
Jalen Guillbeau - he seems perfectly made for the Star position. He seems to play zone coverage very well and he’s pretty fierce in run support.
Kobe Black- I really like him. He’s the future. I hope he doesn’t outgrow corner. I really haven’t seen him lock up against starting WRs though.
Gavin Holmes- While not a starter, he’s pretty capable as the 3rd corner. He is just a pure cover corner. I wish he had one more year.
Michael Taaffe- another DB that seems to do everything above average. Tackling, play recognition, covering TEs, run support, blitzing, and making plays on the ball in the air.
Andrew Mukuba- He also does everything well. (Sensing a theme yet?) But mostly he makes big plays in the passing game. I really like his range too.
Derek Williams - he was a perfect complement to Taaffe and Mukuba. He was the stereotypical free safety. Get well, young man.
Jelani McDonald - great combination of size and speed. Talk about a run enforcer. He is turning into what Tyler Owens was supposed to be.
Props to Terry Joseph and Blake Gideon. This group is much improved over the 2023 group.
