He's the one I wanted and I give zero fu$&s what he got his degree in.
He will likely get 3 years. I wouldn’t say he isn’t getting fired next year is a sure thing. Think the new AD puts a wrinkle in things. It would likely take a 3-9 4-8 type year but don’t think it’s a lock anymore he gets a 3rd year.
Sorry, as much as you would like for Herman to get fired after next season, its not going to happen, and it has nothing to do with Del Conte. Firing a coach after only two years would sour any decent coach from considering Texas.
del conte wants herman to succeed for as long as possible, because until he gets to hire a football coach, he's on a prelim clock. so if herman does well for a few years and then has a bad 2022, del conte isn't really nder fire because he didn't hire the guy. so he gets a free pass until he hires his own dude. shaka, i think, has found a good team and will now be fine. hopefully, he realizes he needs a pg to get things done.
You are telling me if he goes 3-9 or 4-8(which is very possible without significant offensive improvement) Herman is completely safe? I don’t buy it. I think if that happened and Del Conte said “I want to make a change”. I have a hard time believing the money guys wouldn’t back him. If Herman gets a 3rd year it should be because the program is headed in the right direction(which again he’s likely to get) Not because we’re worried about scaring off a potential replacements.
I think the whole scaring off replacements narrative is overblown. Mark Richt went 10-3 and 9-3 before he was not retained at UGA. Didn’t stop Kirby Smart. Jim McElwain went 10-4,and 9-3. Didn’t get along with new AD and got fired 7 games in to year 3, and they got their guy. Gene Chisek got fired 2 years after a national title after going 3-9 in his 4th year. They were able to get the guy they wanted.
I think coaches understand or they should by now that at these power programs the leash is getting really short. You are expected to come in and win. Not 4 years from now, but right now. We can certainly debate if that is fair or not. Certainly a debate worth having but fair or not though that’s the way it is. A lot of people mention Nick Saban at Michigan State recored. In today’s world he probably isn’t there 5 years. He probably gets canned after year 3 or 4
Yeah I thought he did well. The one thing he said that I think is important and has been a problem at Texas the last 5-6 years is that everyone needs to be rowing the boat in the same direction. Other than the fact that PJ fleck might file suite for use of that phrase I think that’s been a real issue. There has been a lack of leadership at the top which has allowed there to be several different people chasing different agendas going back to the Mack firing and the presiit of Saban to the hiring of Charlie. Now that we have long term leadership hopefully everyone can get on the same page.
Hopefully Del Conte will be our first great modern AD.
