No. 1 Texas has had several true freshmen make an immediate impact through the first four weeks of the 2024 college football season.
Former five-star Ryan Wingo arrived on campus to a talented a deep wide receiver room that includes Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, Johntay Cook, DeAndre Moore and Silas Bolden among others. His path to playing time as a true freshman appeared slim, but Wingo showcased an impressive offseason and it has translated into the regular season thus far.
Through four games, Wingo has hauled in nine receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He's averaging an impressive 26.6 yards per reception and also recorded one carry for 55 yards against Michigan.
Another former five-star true freshman is stepping up for the Longhorns as well. On the defensive side of the ball, edge Colin Simmons has made an immediate impact. He has 11 total tackles (7 total) and two sacks through Week 4.
PFF has ranked Wingo and Simmons as the two highest graded true freshman in the country after Week 4, with 88.1 and 84.2 grades respectively.
Steve Sarkisian's last few recruiting classes have Texas set up for success for the foreseeable future and Wingo and Simmons figure to be key pieces of the roster.
