Texas offense should not get a pass.....

If it was any year to drill OU's football team, it was this year. We pretty much played OU's second string with all of the injuries OU has.

It is going to be a while before the defenses catch up in this modern era of offense.

It's going to take some rules adjustments that favor the defense, or tighten up how they call offensive penalties already on the books (holding). They've taken away the defenses ability to punish in the name of safety, and typically err on the side of the offense or safety. But first they will have to recognize that 50-45 games are shitty games, which I don't think they are anywhere close to doing.

I just spit out my oatmeal.

Are you serious? Link?

Before the John Macovich era, Texas was undefeated when they scored more than 40 pts. Those 3 losses came via Mac II and Mack III. Charlie is one special dude to top those two while also doing it in 2.5 seasons. Of football.

I don't think any real proven coaches are open to change and who knows if Briles is scapegoat of higher ups at BU. He would have been unreal at UT.
No pushback on Briles? That would be Ole Miss on steroids are far as commitment to the W. Is this possible? He is a hell of a coach, and he is 100% committed to winning above all else. But.... Damn.

Damn. That's bad.
It is bad, but also apples to oranges. College football 2016 is basically basketball compared to college football 1970.
They used to call holding, you can no longer touch a receiver, offenses run twice as many plays, and the BIG12 is the most offensive minded league.
2005 & 2008 hold some water, but things have changed even in the last decade. Think of the defenses OU and UT had 10 or 12 yrs ago, who in the BIG12 reminds you of those guys?

Ya but we used to pin our ears back and attack on D. This D looks as though we are just trying to "contain" our opponent.

It does not take a mental genius to realize that if a team has the 16th rated offense and the 118th rated defense in the country......where the problem is...amazing amazing amazing.

What would our record be if say we had the 40th rated D, 25th Rated D or the 16th rated D?

If we were 40th (i.e. Vanderbilt), we would be allowing 23 per game...sounds like 5-0...is 40th too much to ask?

Vanderbilt would not have the 40th ranked D with Texas's offense. They are not very good on offense, but they play slow, try to run the ball & try to run clock. They try to play a field position game. And Coach Mason will make someone an excellent DC, after he is canned as their HC.
Offense and Defense is complimentary. Physical offensive teams normally have physical defenses. Finesse offenses normally have soft defenses.

Me and my coworker were talking about this yesterday. In all honesty I don't even care if you have 400+ yds of total offense on us as long as you don't get into the end zone. Bend don't break will work but as it is right now that's not the case.

I just read, "Texas went 225-3 when scoring 40 or more points before Charlie Strong. Texas is 4-4 when they score 40 or more under him."

I remember watching UT-Pitt on TV opening week in 1994. They flashed a stat that Texas was 357-4 when scoring at least 25 point. I'd guess since 1994, we've lost at least 20 more when scoring at least 25.

But as mentioned scoring is crazy today even compared to 8-10 years ago. Bama is #1 and has already given up 43 and 30 in SEC games. TCU w/Patterson has allowed 40+ 3 times also.

Rather than the averages, it's the frequent blowouts in the Strong tenure that are ugly. And offense-defense do complement each other. We need to maintain at least a 5-6 minute edge on time of possession to help the D, and capitalize on what few turnovers we get.

And I doubt anyone seriously thinks the 2016 UT offense is among the greatest in our history. Probably not even top10 post-2000.
