Now that dead period is again upon us and we've got a couple days before pre-season camp starts, I figured it was time for an update to the recruiting board.

Some thoughts ...

QB - One and done with Roschon Johnson.

RB - This one is getting harder and harder to project. Noah Cain and Trey Sanders are still top targets, but I'm not sure you can comfortably call Texas the leader for either. Derrian Brown told me he wanted to visit in July, but that'll have to wait until the fall.

WR - Three commits, still looking for a couple others. I still slightly favor Texas over A&M for Dylan Wright, but that one has a ways to go. Can Texas get back in with Garrett Wilson? Worth watching for sure. And then you have guys like Jaylen Ellis and a couple other in-state players who could surge up the board in the coming months.

TE - Two solid commitments so they'll focus on 2020 here.

OL - Texas has two very good tackle commitments, and now must find an interior guy or two. Who might that be? Not sure yet ... could be a case where they evaluate some guys well into the fall and try to pluck someone late.

DE - Texas has commitments from Peter Mpagi and T'Vondre Sweat. They have offers out to a couple JUCO guys, although a recent OU offer to Jacoby Jones may shake things up there. They could add another here, but I wouldn't expect any movement in the near future.

DT - Texas feels like the team to beat with Taurean Carter for now, and Sweat could help out on the inside as well. New offer Rodas Johnson is intriguing. Still trying to track him down to get his thoughts on where Texas fits in.

LB - Things have changed here pretty quickly. Texas is up to two commitments. Maninoa Tufono will decide on Monday and West Coast people think it'll be either Texas or Washington. David Gbenda is still in the mix, but his plans and leanings have been tough to predict.

DB - Two corners and one safety in the fold. Corner recruiting looks to be wrapped up, but look for another couple safety/nickel guys. Jalen Catalon is the big name. New offer Tyler Owens is worth watching, although he wants to take some time. Throw in guys like Lewis Cine and Noa Pola-Gates and Texas has some options here.
