The Big 12 is being stupid and UT has all the leverage

For a number of reasons, it is in the Big 12's interest to finalize this divorce sooner rather than later. And yet the Big 12 is holding on to a grudge and a hope for an 80 million exit fee.

First, the minute the Big 12 brings in the already scheduled four new teams, they are likely to face legal action from UT and OU if they attempt to equally share tv revenue with them.

Second, the first problem becomes an enormous impediment to raiding schools from the PAC 12. Adding PAC 12 schools as soon as possible is absolutely essential to securing the long-term stability of the Big 12.

Third, the longer OU and UT hang around, the longer it's going to take for the Big 12 to reboot its brand as the new commissioner would like. This is important in positioning itself as the only viable league outside of the superconferences.

Meanwhile, UT is entirely content to use this time to rebuild our roster and gather some momentum before we head into the SEC with the big boys which we are clearly not ready for yet. What will be really interesting is if UT and OU end up playing each other for the Big 12 championship this year.
