With a proposed over 800 billion dollar cut to Medicaid I am concerned with the future of long term health care in the United States. My dad had MS in his later life and was in long term care at a nursing home for over five years. My Mom was able to be with him every day until he finally passed and because of Medicaid she was able to keep the bulk of her estate which allowed her to live on her own for many years after his death until she finally had to go to long term health care at a nursing home because of Alzheimers. We were able to pay for her care using her savings for about a year at a cost of over $6,000 per month. After her savings were depleted Medicaid kicked in. My wife and I would not have been able to have afforded the cost of her care and with her Alzheimers there was no way that we could have kept her with us.

Should the United States taxpayers continue to pay for long term health care for the elderly and infirm?
