The newly released 2019 LSR 100
This project has taken me many hours, days and weeks, but I've finally completed the big post-junior season update for the Class of 2019.
Here are some thoughts on the list...
* The skill class is pretty ridiculous. For the first time since 2000, I have three wide receivers in the top three spots on the list. Theo Wease earns the top spot at this point, but I gave serious consideration to several players in the top overall spot.
* Garrett Wilson reminds me a lot of Ramonce Taylor, but with perhaps even slightly more suddenness. He doesn't quite have the size that Wease brings to the table, but man, he's worth the price of admission.
* I really struggled with the order of the top 10. Basically, the No.2 guy and the No.9-10 guys are pretty interchangeable. No matter how I arranged the names, the players in the bottom half of the top 10 felt like they warranted being higher, but I couldn't drop any of the names down. I'm comfortable believing that there are 10 guys owning national top 50-60 positions.
* Roschon Johnson and Grant Gunnell are very different quarterbacks, but both have huge ceilings. Throw in Grant Tisdale and this is a much better year at quarterback at the top. Gunnell reminds me of Ryan Mallett. Johnson looks like to me the player everyone wished Jerrod Heard could have been at quarterback.
* The running back class doesn't do a lot for me right now.
* Austin Stogner is an honest to goodness, real tight end prospect. He's not as good as Brock Wright was a couple of years ago, but he's not far from it.
* I'm a very big fan of OL Tyler Johnson.
* The defensive tackle class is very meh.
* The defensive end class has a lot of really interesting prospects, but a lot of them are high upside/low basement players.
* The linebacker class is scary poor.
* It's another very good year for defensive back prospects. I came very close to ranking Demani Richardson as the No.1 overall defensive backfield prospect. He's a little more sudden than Brian Williams as an athlete. I'm a big fan of TCU commit Donovan Collins.
* Houston Madison defensive back Bobby Wolfe is my favorite Rivals-rated three-star in the state at the moment.
Feel free to pepper me with any comments or questions.
