As I understand the pending legal ruling, and what I’m hearing from AD folks, each school does not “get” $12-15M of new money to use for what is incorrectly defined as NIL. Schools will be allowed/required to legally share some of what they already get, with the athletes. There is no new magic pot of money, with which to chase portal kids and high school recruits.

It’s why the A$M AD has been slashing his budget and laying off staff. Will it cause a Wild West effect regarding player comp? Most likely, at least initially,. But it ain’t free money and each school will have to take it out of the budget somewhere else. Peter will be paying Paul. The current consensus seems to be it will come from facilities, and everyone will keep their fingers crossed that the TV money improves before the facilities fall apart. It’s certainly putting a dampener on the facilities arms race, at least for now. It also means it may have little impact on long term parity. The big budget haves will still have much more, the total $s they can spend on this will be bigger, and the smaller budget schools will be hard pressed to make ends meet.
