This column is for the people and by the people. I have been a part of this Orangebloods community for 10 years. However, I decided to let the loyal fanbase express the magnitude of this moment.
I asked OB to give me their best and worst and best Big 12 memories. The worst moment was that Michael Crabtree catch. Of course, the best was Vince Young and that Rose Bowl victory.

My buddy got married that day and we were all sitting around in our tuxedos watching the game at the Hyatt downtown. The Horns showed up and kicked ass. Loved that freaking day."

@CS : "Not at the top of the list, but the Oklahoma State games in 2004 and 2005 were pretty awesome. In 2004, we were down 35-7 with 1:21 left in the first half. We won 56-35. In 2005, we were down 28-9 with 5:44 left in the first half. We won 47-28."

1. PPF.com recently released its Texas Longhorn football preview. Here is the website’s analysis of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers:
QUARTERBACK SPOTLIGHT: QUINN EWERS
2023 Grade: 86.8
Key Stat: 90.6 play-action passing grade (eighth-best in FBS, min. 50 dropbacks)
Overview: Ewers flashed his five-star talent early in the 2023 season by torching Alabama for the second straight year. He battled a midseason shoulder injury to lead Texas to the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Arch Manning is hot on his heels, but Ewers comes into 2024 with one more chance to lead the Longhorns to the promised land.
Strengths: Ewers ran Steve Sarkisian’s RPO-heavy system to near perfection and finished top-10 at the position in PFF grade on RPO and play-action plays last year. His best throws are deep shots with so much arc that they seemingly drop from the sky, reminiscent of Russell Wilson in his Seattle heyday. He also boasts enough velocity to drive the ball into the intermediate range and earned a 93.0 PFF grade on passe thrown between 10 and 19 yards downfield in 2023.
Weaknesses: Ewers can make any throw on the field, but he doesn’t flash the high-end parts of his game as often as expected, especially in true dropback situations. His 71.0 grade on non-play action dropbacks ranks on the fringes of the top 50. He is also far less comfortable against the blitz, posting a passing grade nearly 27 points lower than his mark in non-blitz situations. Moving forward, he will need to improve his decision-making versus blitzes due to his average mobility, which doesn’t always allow him to escape the pocket.
2. We have downplayed the roles of football analysts for multiple years because they were not allowed to coach players on the field. If an analyst did coach during practice, it was an NCAA violation. However, an NCAA rule change has made analysts a more valuable asset.
Here is a portion of an ESPN story:
“The NCAA Division I Council on Tuesday approved a rule change that will allow all football staff members to provide coaching instruction during practice and games, a change that removes some restrictions on the NCAA's previous maximum of 11 "countable" coaches.
The decision would go into effect immediately after the meeting concludes Wednesday, according to the NCAA.
"Moving forward, any staff member may provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes during practice and competition," the NCAA stated.
"The new rule maintains that at the FBS level, only 10 assistants and the head coach are allowed to recruit off-campus. The national service academies are allowed four additional off-campus recruiters. Only staff members "who regularly engage in on-campus coaching activities with student-athletes can be counted as off-campus recruiters."
"According to the NCAA, FBS programs are still able to have up to four graduate student coaches and no more than five strength and conditioning coaches. Limits for student assistant coaches will be the same as the number of permissible off-campus recruiters for a football program."

“The council voted to remove cannabinoids from the banned drug class for championships and postseason participation in football, effective immediately.
"The NCAA drug testing program is intended to focus on integrity of competition, and cannabis products do not provide a competitive advantage," Whitman said. "The council's focus is on policies centered on student-athlete health and well-being rather than punishment for cannabis use.
“Any penalties currently being served by student-athletes who previously tested positive for cannabinoids will be discontinued.”
6. Here is something for you to keep an eye on. Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby’s brother, Austin, is one of the best basketball players in the nation. He recently picked up an offer from UT. In addition, he has offers from Florida State, Kansas State, SMU, and Sam Houston State. Goosby is in the Class of 2026. I just wanted to give something fun to monitor.
