an all SEC matchup. It was enough to make me want OK to win something I'd never thought I'd do. I don't think I've ever done this but I'm not going to watch the game. It's one for me not to watch the Super Bowl the college nc game I've always watched.

But not this time. I hope the game goes into triple ot and the final score is 3/0.

I hear you. This is like the Patriots and the Steelers playing each other in the Super Bowl. a 0-0 tie would be great, lol. Can't stand the SEC!

The only time 2 teams from the same conference should make the championship gsme is:

1. As part of an 8 team playoff.
2. In the current 4 team format but one or two of the of the other conferences are just historically bad.

That’s really it.

It sucks indeed, but it’s definitely better for Texas than having the turds from the red dirt-covered tornado magnet to the north of us in the game.

The rules need to be changed to include only division winners in the playoffs or this will be the possible norm going forward more times than not. Alabama has played one less game than the other contenders had.

I’m not watching it. I didn’t watch Alabama/Clemson

Except we want the best team to win, right? If it was Texas & OU playing for the MNC, I’d be okay with it.

Do you think the 4 best teams made the playoffs? I sure do. That is the goal, not making sure all regions of the country are represented. The best football is played in the SE and MW, so those regions are going to dominate at 4 teams or 8 teams. Only way they don't is if the powers that be use something other than merit to decide who gets in.

I don’t know that the 4 best teams made the playoffs. With the say college football currently schedules not sure you can say who the best team is based on anything other than opinion. That’s why I would would expand the playoff and include everyone and let it actually be decided on the field. People in a room shouldn’t be making assumptions on who is better than who or who would hypothetically win a game. Let’s actually play it out.

Like if I gave Alabama Ohio States schedule they’d probably lose at least 2 games. So no I’m not sure Alabama is better than Ohio State. Not saying they aren’t just saying you can’t rwally say definitively, and shouldn’t have to.

Here is the fraud of the whole selection process. If Bama had beat Auburn but lost to UGA in SEC title game they probably aren’t in the playoff. Same recored. Better body of work, but they probably aren’t selected.

They’re in different divisions and haven’t played this year, correct? I don’t have any problem with it. I think it’s a good matchup.

I have no idea why college football decision makers want to hold onto the notion of judging teams. I've guessed they've just romanticized the perfect season so much that they can't see the light. They are taking baby steps but it will eventually come to an actual playoff format. As teams chosen under the current setup I have no qualms.

Red Sox and Yankees....For all my life I've had to put up with Yankee fans endlessly reminding me of their championship dominance in baseball. For most of my life I had to listen to Red Sox fans gripe about the seemingly eternal "Curse of the Bambino". Yankee fans have always been obnoxious, but right, their record speaks for itself. Then comes 2004 and the Red Sox finally win a championship. You'd think they reinvented baseball. When they win another in 2007, suddenly they're the self-anointed standard for championship caliber baseball. Their fans become even more obnoxious than Yankee fans.....with far less reason....

That's kind of how I view this matchup. I can already hear my friends who are Georgia fans gearing up to tell me for the next year about how dominating and superior SEC football is. My 'Bama fan friends won't bother, they'll just smile and nod, content with their record.

I'll watch the game but like @outhereincali I'll be hoping for a triple O/T 3-0 win by 'Bama. Maybe another championship will finally let Saban retire.....

Alabama coach Nick Saban lamented what he feels is a quick turnaround from the College Football Playoff semifinal games to the championship game, saying that it's difficult to come off a bowl game with only seven days to prepare.

So you're saying you'd rather not watch football than watch teams you don't like? Sounds kinda chick-ish.

I will not watch it either, for the same reasons. I was happy zeroU lost, but when clemson laid a turd, it was disturbing. How can you play for a natty when you didn't win your own conference, much less your division. Nope, won't watch it.

Im already hearing all those inbred mouth breathers on the radio this morning talking about "tha ess eee see puhlays tha best got dayum futbahl in Merica!"

It's like watching an episode of hee haw but with fewer teeth.

I assume you are counting I-AA teams as a "game". Otherwise, discount Mercer and they played TWO less games against D-I opponents.

Edit - Check that, Georgia played Samford. We need a special counsel to investigate this SEC scheduling.

Agreed, although the end of Mack's career complicates the picture a bit.
They both had a lot of 9 and 10 win seasons

Although Mack's last teams started to slip, he won 3 conference titles to Richt's 2, and 4 BCS games to Richt's 2. He also put a lot more players in the NFL than Richt. Last but not least he won a title and played for another.

Did you check this out before the Rose Bowl when Maria Taylor interviewed Kirby Smart?

Don't get me wrong Maria Taylor does a good job as a reporter but I forgot that she played hoops in college and she's 6'2". So when she interviewed Smart I quickly noticed that she towered over Smart lol. And she wasn't even wearing heels. I was thinking man, KS is shorter than me 5'9"

No question that I’d much rather have Mack’s overall tenure at Texas than Richt’s at Georgia. I’d just much rather have Richt’s last four years at Georgia than Mack’s last four at Texas, and I’d much rather we had the talent Richt left behind than the hollowed-out shell of a roster that Mack left behind (after retiring on the job several years prior to his exit).

Also, Mack only won two conference championships and three BCS games. And this will surprise you: Georgia actually had far more players drafted while Richt was there (85) than Texas did under Mack (58). But I’m pretty sure that we still had more total players on NFL rosters in Mack’s later years than Georgia did.

I'm counting the one in 2008 as ours even if no one else does..

I would have never imagined that GA had that many more players drafted than TX. I saw a link around the time of SB 47 that TX was tied for 2nd for most players on active rosters. I assumed we had more players drafted my bad. We probably didn't have many players drafted during Mack's last 4 years. You're right about Richt leaving more talent for successor than Mack did.

Oh and Mack was 3/1 in BCS bowl games and Richt was 2/1.
