I am reading Bill O'Reilly's book "The United States of Trump." I would highly recommend it to both the Dems and Reps on this board. It gives a purposely unbiased view of Trump's childhood, his schooling, his early years in business, his time on The Apprentice, and why he chose to run for President and how he pulled off winning the election.

It really explains a lot about why Trump is the way he is.
  • He's from New York and learned an "in your face" style that startles many people. It's certainly not the style of most career politicians in DC.
  • He truly believes that both GW Bush and Obama were bad leaders. Bush for getting us into Iraq and Obama for being extremely weak in negotiating with foreign powers.
  • He is not a racist. That is a media fabrication to diminish him.
  • He is a master manipulator of the press. Even when they speak unfavorably of him, he is getting his message out.
My impression -- (not necessarily from the book, but from my own observations) is that Trump ran for President because he thought he could do a better job than what he saw from Bush and Obama. Very early on he told us what he would do: (1) Negotiate better trade deals (2) Make countries pay for our military protection (3) tighten up our immigration process and (4) bring jobs back to the USA through corporate tax cuts and tariffs on foreign goods.

In the book, O'Reilly quotes from Trump's original interviews when he first announced his candidacy. He has not wavered from those topics. And I am amazed that he has managed to execute on most of his promises in spite of the most political headwind that any president ever has been forced to overcome.

I did not vote for Trump in 2016.
But I now believe that Trump is the most successful president in my lifetime.
