3/1/1927- Harry Belafonte, the “King of Calypso” is born in NYC. He was a trailblazer in so many ways, being the first Black American to win an Emmy and the first music artist to sell over one million copies within a year of its release. Stage, TV, Movies or the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement, he was front and center.
2/26/1928- Rock pioneer Fats Domino is born in New Orleans.
2/26/1932- Johnny Cash is born in rural Arkansas. The “Man in Black” would cross different genres and audiences for over 6 decades, all drawn to his distinctive voice and his gripping songs of sorrow, tribulations, redemption and all things Americana. He played early Rock, Rockabilly, Country, Gospel and Folk.
2/28/1942- Brian Jones (2nd from right), the jack of all trade's musician and founder of the Rolling Stones, is born in southern England. Here is him on the sitar on this classic.

2/24/1950- Blues rocker George Thorogood is born in Delaware. He’s played with 1960’s band to the 90’s band, ranging from The Beatles to Badfinger to Beck.
2/26/1950- Journey keyboardist, songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Cain is born in Chicago.
3/2/1950- Karen Carpenter, drummer and singer extraordinaire for The Carpenters is born in CT.
2/26/1953- He who must never be named was born on this day. Some say CT, but I say the 9th circle of Hell.
2/27/1954- Journey co-founder and lead guitarist Neal Schon in born at Tinker AFB in OK. While still in his teens, he was a member of Santana and played on the 3rd and 4th albums. After 1986 while Journey was on hiatus after Steve Perry left the group, he co-founded the supergroup Bad English (with Journey bandmate Jonathan Cain and 80’s pop rocker John Waite).
