12/14/1959- The Dave Brubeck Quartet release their pivotal jazz album Time Out. It was the 1st Jazz album to sell over 1 million copies and it’s single “Take Five” was the 1st Jazz single to sell over 1 million copies.


12/11/1961- This single from the Marvelettes is the no.1 song in America. It is Motown’s 1st song to hit no. 1 in the land and features 21-year old Marvin Gaye on the drums and of the Funk Brothers on the rhythm section.


Elvis’ 7th album Blue Hawaii begins an astounding 22-week run as the no. 1 album in America.


12/9/1963- The Beach Boys release this Christmas classic.


12/14/1963- The “Queen of the Blues” Dinah Washington dies at age 39 of a barbiturate overdose.

12/9/1964- Joh Coltrane records what many say is his masterpiece album A Love Supreme.

12/11/1964- Soul/R&B legend Sam Cooke is shot dead outside an LA Motel office by the manager in self-defense (Cooke was found wearing only a robe and shoes), a case that is still controversial and hard to explain to this day. 11 days later this single, and arguably his finest song, is released.


12/12/1964- This Phil Spector produced song from The Righteous Brothers is released.


This Bobby Vinton song is the no. 1 song in America.


12/9/1965- A Charlie Brown Christmas airs on CBS. Its classic jazz music score written by Vince Guaraldi sells over 4 million copies. The special has become an annual presentation since its debut.

12/9/1966- Rock’s very 1st supergroup Cream, release their debut album, Fresh Cream.


The Who release their 2nd album A Quick One.
