6/10/1910- Chester “Howlin’ Wolf” Burnett, one the most influential Blues musicians ever, is born in MS.
6/9/1915- Les Paul, famed guitarist and music and recording innovator is born in WI. He would pioneer the guitar instrument to new heights through his design of the Gibson Les Paul of the first successfully mass-produced electric guitars. His recording innovations include fretting and chord sequencing as well as multi-track recording.
6/10/1922- Frances “Judy Garland” Gumm, is born in MN.
6/10/1931- Guitarist, singer and composer Jao Gilberto, the “Father of Bossa Nova”, is born in Brazil.
6/9/1934- Jackie ”Mr. Excitement” Wilson, the four-octave vocal range famed Soul/R&B legend and one of the best showmen in music history, is born in Detroit.
6/15/1937- Waylon Jennings, former Buddy Holly bandmate and key figure of the outlaw country movement, is born in Littlefield, just outside of Lubbock. He is a pioneer of not only Rock ‘N Roll but Country music as well.

6/10/1941- Shiley Owens of the R&B pioneering girl group The Shirelles, is born in NC. The foursome were the were the 1st girl group to hit no. 1 on the U.S. charts with this 1960 tune.
6/15/1941- Singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson is born in Brooklyn.
6/11/1949- ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard (right) is born in the small east Texas town of Frankston.

6/12/1952- Alt-Country and steel guitarist extraordinaire Junior Brown is born in AZ. He cut his teeth in music as the house band at Austin’s Continental Club before becoming a recording and touring act.
6/10/1961- Kim Deal, singer/songwriter and bassist for The Pixies and The Breeders, is born in OH.
6/12/1961- Ricky Nelson’s “Travelin’ Man” is the top song in the U.S.
6/14/1961- George “Boy George” O’Dowd is born outside London.
6/10/1964- On the Rock’s finest drummers ever, Billy Chamberlain of the Smashing Pumpkins, is born outside Chicago.
The Rolling Stones meet their hero Muddy Waters along with Chuck Berry and Buddy Guy at Chicago’s Chess Records. The band also record “Its all over now” and this early Stones classic.
Kyu Sakamoto’s “Sukiyaki” becomes the first Japanese song to the U.S singles charts. Sadly Sakamoto would lose his life along with 519 others when Japanese Airlines Flight 123 crashes and becomes the deadliest plane crash in history.

6/10/1965- Ace guitarist Joey Santiago of alternative legends The Pixies, is born the Philippines.
6/11/1965- Irish Rock group Them release their debut album The Angry Young Them. It includes this endlessly performed garage band classic. gloria
