1. First and foremost, shout out to the '23 - '25 Horns! Not only have these boys given their all for two years and were fun to watch... they're pretty damn easy to root for. Lots of good kids saying the right thing. Thank you Sark! Not all coaches are handling this new era as smoothly as he.
2. 5 losses in two years. OU, Wash, Georgia (x2) and Ohio State. Just the year before ... Texas lost to Tech, TCU and OK. Lite. What a difference.
3. This year Texas was the only team returning their OC and DC from the previous 3 years. Having a DC that's killing it with no desire to be a HC is a rare commodity. If Sark and PK are both still here in 5-7 years, to me that means they are likely the best OC/DC combo Texas has ever had because they're not still here without some hardware to show for it.
4. Texas' defensive scoring rankings under PK: 89th, 24th, 12th and then 2nd. This defense has a lot coming back and some young bucks ready to go. The pieces added through the portal aids the graduating attrition. I think Texas' D will be better in '25 with Simmons, Hill Jr, Moore, Muhammed, Black and a few others taking it to the next level.
5. Ewers was great for us and gave his all... but he just didn't inspire a lot of fear in opposing defenses or coaches. They knew their d-line would bat some balls for possible picks, that he would step into the pressure in the pocket at times and he could go full Romo in the 3rd. Play aggressive and wait for your opportunity. However, Arch will inspire the fear. Not only does he have a deep ball you have to respect and a trigger to let it fly... but his mobility and moxy will pay dividends. He's going to MJ posterize a guy or two early in the year and no one wants to be on his CFB football card or immortalized in a video game highlight. This is going to be fun.
6. Texas has filled some necessary roles on defense through the portal. Right now... I think this team is talented enough to do something similar as the last two years. However, a few offensive pieces through the portal such as a couple OL, a RB and a WR/TE and I think they will be primed to take another step. I think they will get a few grad transfers in the second portal window and take that step.
7. Wingo and Moore both had a breakout game under Manning during his limited run (Wingo 3 catches, 127 yards and a TD - - Moore 4 catches, 104 yards and 2 TDs). I honestly think these two will be fine as 1 and 2 for Arch. If Texas could get a solid #3 jr. or sr. through the portal... that would really round out the unit and buy the young bucks some time. However, I don't think it's necessary for this offense to improve in '25.
8. aggy beat the "Texas was overrated, did not play anyone, Manning is a 3 star with a 5 star name" drum all last year... even after we embarrassed them in their house and their season went to shit in November. Now... they're dropping bags just to get kids to visit (because why the hell would you visit College Station?!) and filling out their team with mercenaires, some that will never take one foot out of the portal (ala Micah Hudson). I got them going 8-5 again this year.... and College Station burns when...
9. Arch leads Texas on a final drive that rivals '05 USC and in similar fashion... he runs it in on his own, giving Texas a National Championship just over twenty years to the day from their last one! LFG!!
