I was listening to a podcast recently and I thought one of the ideas that I heard was interesting. So I decided to share it and get some thoughts.
I have generally been in the Libertarian/Conservative camp that believes that the government just is not very good at doing much and that raising taxes is often just a waste of money.
But I heard this and it makes sense.
An American who makes $60,000 a year pays roughly $10,000 in taxes.
For that $10,000 they get roads, airports, police, firefighters, schools, utilities, etc., etc.
The same American is probably paying a company like Spectrum/Comcast $2000 a year to get crappy internet service and some relatively worthless TV channels. There are many other similar examples.
Maybe the government, for all of it's many faults, does provide the average person more bang for their buck than the private sector in a lot of circumstances.
