Texas football coach Tom Herman’s search for a new offensive coordinator is just about over.

According to my sources, Herman met with Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca on Saturday night. The meeting went well, but he was not offered the job. Instead, Ciarrocca was officially announced as Penn State’s new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach on Thursday.

That brings us back to Ohio State passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich.

From what I have been able to gather, Yurcich will likely be named Herman’s new offensive coordinator before the end of the year, according to my sources. I think an announcement could occur as early as this weekend. Ohio State will play against Clemson on Saturday, and everyone involved in the hiring process is seemingly willing to wait until after that game before the announcement is official.

In addition, I learned Herman is expected to speak with an NFL candidate this week. Right now, I do not have the name of that contender.

Obviously, anything can happen between now and Saturday.

However, barring the unforeseen, Herman is moving closer to bringing arguably the best offensive coordinator candidate to Austin.
