There is nothing new to report after Texas football coach Tom Herman and others visited freshman receiver Bru McCoy and his family on Wednesday.
Texas receivers coach Drew Mehringer, quarterback Sam Ehlinger, Kevin Washington, director of player development, and Herman visited the family in an effort to convince McCoy to return to Texas. I reached out to my sources to inquire about the visit, but everyone inside the building is pretty quiet right now.
Honestly, there are two ways to view this situation.
If you want to be optimistic, Herman and his staff left without a commitment from McCoy, but there is still a chance he takes some time to digest what he heard and decides he wants to rejoin the Longhorns. Clearly, Herman and company were willing to address any concerns McCoy had by flying out to California to re-recruit him.
If you want to be pessimistic, the lack of a commitment by McCoy on the spot could have been a polite way of saying no and indicates he intends to remain in California and transfer to USC. If McCoy's concerns were about the program, those issues were likely addressed, and he should have been good to go.
Right now, things are quiet.
There does not appear to be a timetable for McCoy’s decision. It appears Herman and his staff will patiently wait to hear from McCoy while focusing on the players present at summer workouts.
I will keep you posted.
