Have always heard dripping is recommended during hard freezes to keep water moving in the pipes, preventing them from freezing.
The last couple of years I've heard city officials tell people NOT to drip because it would put pressure on the water supply. This never made much sense to me because everyone showers in the morning almost every day within about a 2 hour window. Wouldn't this put much more pressure on the city's water pressure/supply?
