“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” - Edith Wharton

When I think about this quote, I’m reminded of some of the best leaders of faith in our Creator that inspires others to be the light in this world.

Billy Graham, Charles Stanley, and Charles Spurgeon come to mind.

These men were/are great at spreading the light of the Gospel. They have been the candles that illuminate the promises of our Creator.

Our responsibility is to reflect that candle light so that others can see clearly how to live better lives. The challenge is to be a good example; it can be a tall task if we are facing our own trials. Sometimes our own failings and doubts demonstrate darkness rather than light. Hence, some reject the light due to the accusation of “hypocrite” or what some people call “church hurt”. Churches don’t hurt others, PEOPLE hurt others. I believe at times we are all hypocrites. There is no perfect church because there is no perfect human being, accept for The One.

I pray we can be better at reflecting the light.

Matthew 5:16
