“Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
I wish I had this quote back when the new owners of my business took over. All they cared about were the daily sales made instead of the sales “seeds” our team were planting. What we were selling took time to grow/mature; typical timeline was 6 -18 months since it was a big ticket item that needed budget approval by administrations. My go to line was…we’re not selling pancakes, but they refused to understand our business model.
The same can be said for parents. I’m a parent of three kids who are now grown adults. We planted many seeds for them growing up. Discipline, displaying good character traits such as faith, patience, kindness, generosity, hard work, love, forgiveness, humility, etc., all takes time to develop. These things don’t happen overnight.
I’m happy to say that these seeds took root and we have harvested great adult kids. There are no guarantees, but we did our best to instill these traits and more importantly, demonstrate them to our kids while growing up. We of course were not perfect, we screwed up from time to time, but we asked for forgiveness when we were wrong and I believe that made a big difference to them.
Being a good example to others takes commitment and guidance from our Creator.
It’s more important to do what you say, than say what you’ll do and not come through.
Be a good example out there my friends!
