Good morning,
I want to open today with a few words about the founder of Today’s Gift Allen Jones, aka DippyDawg. Today is the one-year anniversary of his passing. For those of you who started reading TG after he died, I want you to know that Allen was the kindest soul I’ve ever met. He started TG to help others who struggled with addiction as he struggled with it daily.
He has inspired many on OB and elsewhere to stay sober and to live life to the fullest. I broke bread with Allen a few times and joined him for a UT baseball game and you would not meet a more friendly person. He greeted everyone around him with a smile and a kind word. He also volunteered to be my first Grief Specialist client so that I could earn my certification. Thanks to him, I’ve been able to help many who suffer from the pain of grief. Thank you DippyDawg, may you continue to rest in peace! Please say a prayer for his wife Shaun and family as I’m sure they are still missing him terribly.

I’m a grandparent of two granddaughters that are about 18 months old. Sometimes I’m amazed at how much my wife and I have forgotten how much work it was to raise our now 3 adult children. Like all parents, we had our struggles along the way, trying to figure out how to discipline them so they didn’t end up being terrors to society and thank God they all ended up as great adults.
We took our granddaughters to a park, and I witnessed one of them push the hands of another child off a statue of an animal that both were interested in touching. My instinct was to correct my grandchild, which I did, and she started to cry raising the attention of my daughter/her mother. My daughter asked what was going on and I explained what happened. Thankfully, my daughter was cool with my actions.
However, I’ve seen other parents get upset when grandparents attempt to correct bad behavior. Some of you may have seen the video of a child gone wild on an airplane, jumping up and down in their seat, screaming and then running up and down the plane aisle. Obeying authorities/parents is essential for bringing up good citizens so they can have a happier life.
