“If you focus on results, you’ll never change. If you focus on change, you’ll get results.” –Jack Dixon

This quote reminds me of another saying, “too much analysis = paralysis”. I can think of a few times this came true. When I was a pharma rep, I had a few different district managers that would come to work with me a couple of days every 6 weeks. All of them had different management styles. My favorite one let me be myself and offered a few tips to help me improve. My least favorite, nit picked everything I did even though I was a seasoned rep with a tenure of several years.

The latter style made me freeze during some of my calls. I became too concerned with what I said and how I said it rather than letting me be in the moment and use my instincts. I hated working with this manager, he didn’t help me improve, quite the opposite, he made me doubt myself.

Focusing only on results can lead to frustration and self-doubt. Focusing on making some changes/improvements offers a higher chance of positively improving results. This idea can also be helpful in other areas of life besides business/career. For those struggling with addictions and relationship issues can benefit by focusing on making the correct changes in behavior that will lead to better results, i.e. remaining sober and reconciling bad relationships.

Daily focus on the journey rather than the final destination can help you reach the results you desire.

Stay focused my friends!
