What Are You Striving For?

I imagine if all of you replied to this question I would get a wide variety of answers.

When I was in my twenties, I wanted to get through college, find a beautiful girl to keep me company, live in my own place instead of sharing a one bedroom roach infested apartment with my older brother.

In my post college days, I wanted that dream girl, dream job, make lots of money, get married, and have kids. I had many “dream girls” break my heart until I met my wife. Next I wanted to be promoted to be a district manager and build up a big retirement fund. I didn’t get that job and at that time I thought my world was starting to crumble until I finally focused on what my Creator wanted for me.

I could run down a long list of things I wanted that I didn’t get which I thought my Creator would for sure want to help me achieve, even in my latter business career our company took twists and turns we never envisioned. But as I look back, I realize much of what we wanted wasn’t what was best for us.

Our Creator is trying to tell us to strive for Him first. He wants us to communicate with Him about everything, for the danger is...if we focus only on our desire at the moment, we lose that connection to the One who has His best interest for our long term wellness.

I’ve come to believe that if what we desire fits His plan, He will help us achieve it. If it is contrary to His will for us, He will help us change that desire. If we seek Him first, life will fall into place, piece by piece.
