“True abundance isn’t based on our net worth; it’s based on our self-worth.” — Gabrielle Bernstein

I heard a sermon recently that really opened my eyes to the notion of worth. I grew up in a predominately white neighborhood, all but one family in my high school were white/Caucasian, so I wasn’t exposed to other races until I moved to Austin to go to UT. As a result, I didn’t know it at the time, but I had some underlying prejudices that slowly revealed themselves as I interacted with a more diverse population. Hold that thought for a moment…

Now, back to the sermon; our Pastor referenced various verses that talked about how we are all made in our Creator’s image. Another talked about how…should we make it passed the final judgement, we will see people of EVERY nation, tribe, people represented in heaven. If you believe we are ALL created in our Creator’s image, then it’s logical to believe that we ALL have worth and value to our Creator no matter what our ethnic background or color of our skin.

While in college my eyes opened to a world of diversity. Eventually I met my wife who grew up in Mexico. I would have never imagined I would marry a Latina girl prior to moving to Austin. I was raised to look for a German Lutheran girl.

No matter our background, we ALL have worth and value despite what others might think about us. In our Creator’s eyes, we are all worthy to be seen for what He created us to be. Would it not be boring if we all looked and talked the same? Our Creator is very creative, so it makes sense that our ethnicity/color of our skin will carry over to the next life.

My prayer for you is to see others as they were created to be, in all their colorful and ethnic glory and to know that you all have incredible worth and value.
