As many of you may know, we have twin granddaughters about 15 months old and they are a real joy in our lives. I have never felt this kind of love before until they were born and are now growing into their own personalities, it is amazing.
Our daughter at times will jokingly ask; who’s your favorite? Both my wife and I say back, neither or I will say, one is my favorite redhead and the other is my favorite brunette. Each one has their unique qualities, even at such a young age. Even if we had a “favorite”, it would be unwise to show any type of favoritism. If you recall the story of Joseph in the Old Testament, Joseph’s father Jacob favored him above all his brothers and didn’t hide his favoritism which ultimately led to his brothers hating Joseph to the point of them selling him into slavery. Ultimately our Creator used this for their own good, but Jacob and Joseph had to endure years of suffering and separation.
Our instinct as grandparents is to protect them. It is hard not to worry about them when we are away from them or when they get sick. We try not to let our legitimate concern to become a type of child worship or a type of idol. We strive to release protective care to our Creator who is far superior to any protection we can provide as grandparents.
When we entrust the care of our loved ones to our Creator, He is free to bless them beyond what we can imagine, and we can put our worries to rest.
